Devdutt Padikkal has been called up to the Indian Test Team for the first time in his career. After a stupendous start to the year, Padikkal has been named as the replacement for the outgoing KL Rahul, who is unavailable for the upcoming third Test match in Rajkot.
The Kerala-born batter has been a household name in the Indian Premier League, ever since making his debut for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020. However, his Test call-up is all due to the monumental performances in the domestic circuit for Karnataka.

Padikkal was also a part of the India A team to face the England Lions. He scored a century (105) in the second Test, followed by a half-century (65) in the third.
India suffered a defeat against England in the inaugural Test match in Hyderabad. However, the hosts displayed a fightback in the series at Vizag. India won the Vizag Test by 106 runs, courtesy of memorable performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Devdutt Padikkal made his First Class debut for Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy game against Maharashtra in November 2018. As an 18-year-old, Padikkal was considered a prodigal talent, coming through the Karnataka Institute of Cricket.
Padikkal had an unlucky start to life in his first-class career for Karnataka. He was dismissed after a meagre seven-run knock, facing 24 deliveries. However, his fate turned towards him in the second innings. Padikkal scored his maiden half-century in his maiden Test match, with a 128-ball 77. His knock included 11 boundaries and one six.
After a promising start to the calendar year, Padikkal has received his maiden Test call-up for India ahead of the 3rd Test in Rajkot.
