Venice Simplon-Orient Express, A Belmond Train, will launch coastal Italian Riviera route this year

Launching in June, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, will – for the first time, in the train’s 40-year history – travel the Ligurian coast to connect two iconic destinations, Paris and Portofino *chefs kiss*

The overnight journey will see the train wind through the French countryside and along the French and Italian Rivieras. To conclude, guests will spend two nights at the luxurious Splendido, A Belmond Hotel in Portofino.

Guests of the overnight journey are invited to board the train before departure where they can enjoy a French gouter in their selected cabin before proceeding to Bar Car ‘3674’ for handcrafted cocktails and live music by the Venice Simplon-Orient Express’ resident pianist.

Once the train takes off it will pass the cities of Dijon, Lyon and Avignon while guests dine in the restaurant cars Côte d’Azur, L’Oriental, and Étoile du Nord and watch the cities go by. A summer menu by Michelin-starred chef Jean Imbert will be served and paired with handpicked wines from the train’s extensive collection, an homage to Europe’s finest appellations.

Come morning, an indulgent continental breakfast is served to guests in the privacy of the cabins, to the backdrop of spectacular coastal views as the railway connects France with Italy, moving past the famous towns of Cannes, Nice, and Monte Carlo. As the Venice Simplon-Orient Express crosses the Italian border, guests can admire the vibrant cities of Ventimiglia, Savona, and Genoa. In this final leg of the journey, a delicious brunch is served before arriving in Santa Margherita Ligure where the train experience ends, but the Italian sojourn continues at Splendido.
