Much-loved British comedian Dawn French announced last week that the remainder of her ‘Dawn French Is A Huge T**t’ tour would be postponed due to the worsening condition of her arthritic knee.
However, some ticket-buyers who hadn’t heard the news – and were seemingly uninformed by the Wycombe Swan Theatre in High Wycombe – turned up at the venue for the scheduled tour date on Sunday evening (November 19) regardless.
Would-be attendee Dorothy Johnson took to the Facebook group High Wycombe (HW) this morning (November 20) to voice her frustration about the lack of communication from the theatre.
She wrote: “(A) lovely evening had by all at the Wycombe Swan Theatre seeing Dawn French – NOT. It was cancelled over a week ago due to Miss French injuring her knee, except they failed to inform anyone.
“(There were) lots of people turning up to find the theatre closed and a note on the door. Some people had travelled quite a distance or come in taxis.
“(It) seems they have our email to promote the panto but not to let us know a show is cancelled.”
Some commenters said they had received emails from the theatre warning them of the postponement, but Nicholas Foote agreed with Dorothy’s sentiment, writing: “(It) doesn’t take two minutes to do a Facebook (post) to tell people the show is cancelled.”
Dawn French shared a statement about the news on her Instagram page on November 10.
It read: “Hello folks. It’s with a massively heavy heart and FURIOUS t*ts that I have to admit defeat and postpone all of my remaining tour dates.
“My STUPID SELFISH ol’ arthritic knee has totally given up and won’t let me walk. I am swearing a lot.
“I am bereft to let you down. Sorry. On the upside, I can have the (operation) I so desperately need earlier than planned.”
She added: “We are working to reschedule the dates. Bear with…”
The Wycombe Swan has been approached for comment.
