The Masked Singer fans ‘work out’ Cricket’s identity as chart-topping singer

The Masked Singer fans think they have rumbled Cricket’s identity after they performed on the ITV prime time programme.

The character performed the hit DeBarge song Rhythm of the Night which was first released in 1985 and later covered by various groups.

Cricket had a notably deep voice, but it was smooth and in tune with the song, leaving the judges in awe.

Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Olly Murs all had different theories about the identity of Cricket following the performance.

Host Joel Dommett asked comedian Mo how he felt about the performance, to which he replied: “That was so good! I’m going to go back to a previous guess I had. I think this could be Levi Roots.”

However, The Voice star Olly Murs suggested 45-year-old singer Lemar – who rose to fame on the talent show Fame Academy in 2022 – could be behind the mask.

The Essex-born star stand-in judge said: “When you sang, Cricket, you sang at my best friend’s wedding, that’s Lemar.”

Meanwhile, longtime judge Davina thought JLS member, and former X Factor finalist, Marvin Humes was actually Cricket following the clues the character shared on the show.

Fans of the programme had their own theories, with many convinced the person posing as Cricket was chart-topping singer, Seal.

Karen shared on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Could Cricket be Seal? #TheMaskedSinger.”

A confused user called Rich added in light of their followers: “Is Cricket Seal? #TheMaskedSinger.”

Jennie wrote: “Is cricket Seal??!! I’m ignoring the clues and just going by the voice #TheMaskedSinger.”

Hannah penned: #TheMaskedSinger I’m going in early but I think that’s Seal inside Grasshopper. I swear that’s him!”

Another fan wrote: “I was thinking Cricket sounds like Seal but don’t think he would lower himself #TheMaskedSinger.”

Seal, whose real name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, was actually on the US version of the programme back in 2019 when he was hiding behind the character Leopard.

After his face was revealed to the judges, he admitted he kept his identity a secret from everyone, even his children.

The Masked Singer returns next Saturday on ITV and ITVX at 7pm.
