Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty were sitting together for the most part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final match between India and Australia. A video from the game grabbed a lot of eyeballs on the internet wherein Hindi commentators made some comments about the two actresses which are being deemed as ‘sexist’ and ‘misogynistic’. When the camera panned to Anushka and Athiya, Harbhajan Singh reportedly said ‘Aur yeh main soch raha tha ki baat cricket ki ho rahi hai ya filmon ki. Kyunki cricket ke barein mein toh janta nahi kitni samajh hogi.’ Reacting to his comments, a netizen wrote ‘The audacity of commentators to pass a sexist comment on such a broadcast. Shame’, whereas another one said ‘The commentator saying that Anushka and Athiya must be talking about films during the India vs Aus WC finals because “Cricket ki Zyaada samajh toh hogi nahi” is despicable. Misogyny is omnipresent, no matter the subject’. One of the netizens called it ‘the most disgusting thing ever heard’ whereas another one said ‘Hindi commentators openly mocking #anushkasharma on her understanding of cricket. Hum kab sudhrenge bhai, woh sirf Anushka nahi hai, she’s wife of #ViratKohli, who has created history recently and mocking someone while so many people watching is absolutely ridiculous’. Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma was also seen giving an emotional hug to her husband Virat Kohli after the Indian cricket team lost the final match against Australia. A video of the two actresses being visibly upset moments before India lost the game also grabbed a lot of eyeballs. For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
