Buccaneers-49ers Leave Plenty of Bettors Hanging
Another matchup that left a bad taste in bettors’ mouths is Tampa Bay against San Francisco. Those who bet on the ‘over’ 41½ and the 49ers’ spread (-13½) watched with bated breath in the fourth quarter. But to no avail.
San Francisco went up 27-7 heading to the fourth quarter. But the Buccaneers, as they have done a few times, scored an early touchdown in the last period to cut the deficit to 27-14. From there, the 49ers did not try too hard to move the ball or even score a field goal for good measure.
Tampa Bay could not find a way to get into the endzone. The result is a 27-14 final that went a fraction under the total and a fraction against the 49ers’ spread. On the flip side, the NFL odds originally had San Fran at -10½. Just like the Steelers-Browns game, the early bird bettors dodged a bullet.
Stroud Throws Away the Cover – Twice
And for a third time, the early bird bettors cashed out on Houston while those who got their spread later got big fat L’s. Houston opened at -2½ and closed at -5½. Those who had the latter got jobbed as the Texans could not expand on their 21-16 lead against Arizona with an entire quarter to spare. Thank quarterback C.J. Stroud for throwing two picks while in scoring position.
Stroud got picked off twice: in the Cardinals 13 and their 26 in consecutive drives for Houston. If he had completed either one, the Texans may have just kicked in a field goal to cover the spread. Alas, they fell short of our NFL betting lines.
