Manchester United want Gareth Southgate to become their next manager – Get French Football News

According to Foot Mercato, Gareth Southgate is Manchester United’s primary target to become the next manager of the former Premier League winners.

Erik ten Hag remains in a difficult position made worse since the 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and it has long been suspected that the new era at INEOS would see a change at the helm of the team.

Zinedine Zidane had been previously linked with the role, as he remains a favourite for the interim CEO of the club Jean-Claude Blanc. However, Southgate’s profile according to the French news outlet is currently a popular choice among staff at the club.

Southgate is seen as a strong choice to lead the new project at the club, and Foot Mercato suggests that discussions are going well with the current England manager and United, with the hierarchy wanting to seal a deal in the coming weeks.

Work still to be done with Gareth Southgate and England

The announcement if Southgate were to become the next manager would likely have to wait until Euro 2024. England remain one of the strongest teams in the competition and would like to avoid the distraction of their coach being poached by the Red Devils
