Kylian Mbappé confident of qualification for Champions League final – Get French Football News

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé (25) has expressed optimism on his side’s chances of overturning their 1-0 first leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, reports Le Parisien.

Luis Enrique’s side produced a lacklustre performance in Wednesday’s first leg, struggling for attacking fluency and seemingly wilting in the cauldron-like atmosphere of Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park and its famous Yellow Wall.

Mbappé was the personification of his team’s difficulties, phantom-like in the game and well marshalled by a motivated home defence, but the Frenchman was defiant and bullish regarding his side’s chances of qualification:

“The group is very calm. We are confident and we are sure we’re going to overturn the deficit and qualify for the final. I think it’ll go well, I’m already preparing for it. There is the player and the man, the man needs to prepare himself and that helps the player to prepare himself to take part in an event like this. I will arrive for the match in a good mood, ready to defend my team’s colours and qualify us for the final.”

This season represents Mbappé’s last chance to deliver the much-coveted Champions League trophy for his hometown club, with a switch to Real Madrid at the end of the season an open secret in the footballing world.

PSG have previous when it comes to overturning first leg deficits against Borussia Dortmund, winning 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in the round of 16 back in the 2019/2020 season under Thomas Tuchel after losing the first leg 2-1 in Germany. The French champions went on to reach the final that year, eventually losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
