Brest’s Pierre Lees-Melou to undergo season-ending surgery – Get French Football News

Pierre Lees-Melou (30) will not play again this season in what is a big blow in Stade Brestois’ attempts to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.

Lees-Melou has been a key component in a Brest side that has massively exceeded all expectations this season. Whilst many had tipped Les Ty Zéfs for relegation, they currently sit third in Ligue 1 with just two games remaining. The top three sides will secure automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League group stage.

However, if they are to secure an unlikely podium finish, they must do so without Lees-Melou, who will miss the rest of the season. Manager Eric Roy told reporters on Thursday that the midfielder was set to undergo surgery on his fibula, having been taken off with injury against FC Nantes last week. As well as missing the rest of the season, Roy added that Lees-Melou may not be fit for the start of pre-season either.
